Diana Christine Benton, Soprano

“ A sublime voice that will have an incredible career……una voce magnifica!” (Luciano Pavarotti)

Diana Christine Benton, a young spinto soprano originally from Massachusetts, has been residing and studying in New York City for the last thirteen years. Currently a student of Daniel Ferro, Ms. Benton has performed numerous roles in the metropolitan area including Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Micaela in Carmen and Konstanze in Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail among others. She was meanwhile named a finalist in the Career Bridges Grant Awards Competition, a finalist in the Connecticut Opera Guild Competition and a semi-finalist in the Shreveport Opera ‘Singer of the Year’ Competition in the past two years.

A protégé of Luciano Pavarotti, Diana moved to New York City and began studying with Rita Patane in 1994 at the age of 20. She was subsequently invited to audition for Maestro Pavarotti’s Internatational Voice Competition in 1995 where she became a finalist. Since then, Ms. Benton has concentrated on honing her technique and stagecraft under the expertise of such legends as Renata Scotto, Tito Capobianco, Sherrill Milnes, Nico Castel and Martina Arroyo. She was most recently recognized by Evelyn Lear as an outstanding young Wagnerian soprano and was invited to join her Emerging Singers Program in Washington D.C. She is currently preparing a scene from Lohengrin for a Wagner Society concert in spring 2008.
