Kristin Hoff
Mezzo Soprano

"Also appearing with individual and collective brilliance in the Performance (as the Act II is called), were the three visually and vocally stunning sea-nymphs, Najade (soprano Deanna Breiwick), Dryade (mezzo-soprano Kristin Hoff), and Echo (soprano Emily Duncan-Brown)…" The Boston Musical Intelligencer – August 2010

"...sung with an appealing clarity and emotional heft..." New York Times (Tanglewood Contemporary Music Festival - 2008)

"...searing commitment and impressive vocal command..." The Republican

"Female principals were strong, particularly Kristin Hoff as Ottavia, Emperor Nero's estranged wife. Her vivid voice communicated both pathos and thirst for revenge." Montreal Gazette (l'Incoronazione di Poppea - 2007)

For someone in the early stages of her career Canadian Mezzo-Soprano Kristin Hoff is fast becoming a sought after performer of contemporary music. As part of the Tanglewood Music Center Contemporary Music Festival of 2008, which celebrated Elliot Carter's 100th birthday, Kristin sang Carter's Syringa under the baton of noted conductor, Stefan Asbury. In January Kristin performed Syringa a second time with James Levine conducting the Met Chamber Ensemble at Carnegie Hall. She performed the mezzo-soprano role in Claude Vivier's contemporary opera Kopernikus in Montreal in 2008. A dedicated performer of the art song, Kristin also while at Tanglewood performed Schubert's song, Erlkönig, and the Brahms Neue Liebeslieder Waltzes with the Mark Morris Dance Company. In 2008 she appeared in the role of Mrs. Anderson in A Little Night Music with the Boston Pops; Keith Lockhart conducting.

Orchestral appearances include Mahler's 4th Symphony with conductor Jean-Franηois Rivest, Bach's Cantata 163 with composer/conductor John Harbison, Jean Lesage's Souvenirs posthumes with conductor Lorraine Vaillancourt. Her opera roles include Ottavia in l'Incoronazione di Poppea, Anna Maurrant in Street Scene, Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro, Elvira in Don Giovanni, and Dryade in Ariadne auf Naxos.

This season Kristin will appear with the Niagara Symphony and Chorus as the alto soloist in Handel's Messiah, with l’Orchestre Symphonique des Jeunes de Montréal singing opera excerpts of Mozart and Dvorak, and with the Montreal Contemporary Opera Company Chants Libres. Recently married, Kristin and her husband will reside in New York City in 2011.
