Ivan Novoselov

Born in 1984 in the city of New Bug (Ukraine), Ivan was taken by music from an early age. By the time he was a teenager it was clear he would pursue a musical career and began his studies where he graduated from the State Higher School of Music in choral conducting in 2003.

Ivan then entered the vocal faculty of the St. Petersburg State Conservatory, named after Rimsky-Korsakov, where he studied under Professors Okhotnikov and Kondina. He graduated from the conservatory in 2009.

In 2004, as only a second year student, he began performing a number of performances for the State Opera and Ballet Theater of the St. Petersburg Conservatory as a soloist. Some of the roles included Fiorello in "Il Barbere di Siviglia", Marcel in "La Boheme", Count Almaviva in "Le Nozze di Figaro", Onegin in "Eugene Onegin", and Ebn-Hakia in "Iolanta".

In 2009-2010, under the leadership of Sergey Stadler, he participated in the festival “Under the sign of eternity” by performing the following roles: Balthazar in "Genoveva", Thibault d'Arc in "The Orlean Maiden", Raimondo in "Lucia di Lammermoor", and as the Bass Soloist in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony.

In 2010, the city of Syktyvkar participated in the annual festival “Syktyvkars Tulis” where Ivan performed the following roles: Count Tomsky in “The Queen of Spades” and Count Almaviva in "Le Nozze di Figaro".

As a prolific soloist, Ivan began performing worldwide in 2008, gaining a reputation for superior vocal grace and stage presence. As his repertoire grew he caught the attention of Esa-Pekka Solonen and under the maestro’s leadership Ivan participated in the staging of the unfinished opera “Orango” by Shostakovich in 2014-15. He then performed for the maestro at the prestigious venues of Helsinki Music Center and the Stockholm Baltic Sea Festival in 2014, and at London’s Royal Albert Hall in 2015.

In 2017 he sang at the role of Prince Kurlyatev in the opera “The Enchantress”, in the San Carlo Theater in Naples, directed by David Pountney. To show his versatility, Ivan participated in the 2017-2018 season at the Mariinsky Theater, where he participated in the concert performances of the operas by contemporary composers: M. Kolontay “The Captain's Daughter” Party of Emelyan Pugachev. Alexandr Tchaikovsky "King of Chess" (according to Stefan Zweig “The Royal Game”) the role of Mac Connor.
